Sunrise Hill

Sunrise Hill is a small urban nature reserve. It's primarily acid grassland, some of which is rare within the City boundary. For such a small site, it supports a range of birds, insects, mammals and even amphibians. Most people walking through uphill on the path may not realise the nature reserve extends to the right, into a small clearing surrounded by trees.

Transport links
The 15 bus service goes along Arnold Road and Hartcroft Road.

Legend has it that Sunrise Hill was one of the sites used for training in the 1800s by Bendigo, the famous bare-knuckle fighter. The site boasts a trig point, although sadly toppled over. According to a commenter on Trigpointing UK, it was first erected in 1948.

Friends of Sunrise Hill - We try to balance the needs of the people with the needs of wildlife - maintaining the important habitats which are already there, but also creating a nicer place for people. We have recently created some raised beds at the main entrance which we'll keep adding to, and we regularly litter pick.
