Sherwood Community Food Gardens

Community gardens in Sherwood for local residents to grow food locally and sustainably. There are individual plots and shared spaces. We garden organically and care for the wildlife at both our sites

Our group Community Garden was originally Transition Sherwood and our first community garden started in 2010 behind Sherwood Community Centre. There was a lot of interest in community gardening so we were able to develop a further site at Edingley Sq in 2014. We changed our name in 2020 as community gardening had become the main focus of what we do. We are run by a committee made up of the gardeners on both sites.

Plotholders grow vegetables herbs and fruit for their own use. There are shared spaces with fruit trees, soft fruit, hedge boundaries and a pond which all gardeners help to maintain.

We also welcome volunteers to our regular work parties. There are areas that are left wild to provide homes for wildlife. There is a lot of mutual support and social contact amongst gardeners and both sites are peaceful green spaces to spend time in.
